Praktični nasveti za varno uporabo brezžičnega interneta na javnih mestih

Wireless Internet is very convenient, especially when we are on the road or in public places where no personal network is available. However, using public Wi-Fi networks may increase the risk of your personal information being misused. Here are some practical tips for safe use of Wi-Fi in public places:

Use a VPN: A VPN, or virtual private network, encrypts your internet connection and ensures that your data is safe when you use public Wi-Fi.

Verify network authenticity: Before connecting to a public Wi-Fi network, verify that the network is legitimate. Often, malicious actors can create networks with very similar names to mislead users.

Limit sharing: If you need to connect to a public Wi-Fi network, limit sharing on your device. You can do this in the settings of your computer or mobile device and prevent access to your personal files.

Use websites with HTTPS: HTTPS is a more secure version of the regular HTTP protocol. When you visit websites, make sure they use HTTPS, which means that the communication between your browser and the website is encrypted.

Avoid entering sensitive information: If possible, avoid entering sensitive information such as passwords, credit cards, or personal identification numbers when connected to a public Wi-Fi network.

Turn off Wi-Fi when you’re not using it: When you’re not using the Internet, turn off Wi-Fi on your device. This will not only reduce the risk of data misuse, but also save battery life.

Update your devices: Regular software and operating system updates contain security patches that reduce the risk of hacking.

Use an antivirus program: Antivirus programs can help you identify and protect yourself from malware that may be transmitted over public Wi-Fi networks.

Following these tips can help protect your personal information and maintain your digital security when using public Wi-Fi.
